Refresh Rate Test
Sampling live · no fullscreen needed- 1.Select the highest refresh rate in OS display settings
- 2.Cable: DP 1.2+ / HDMI 2.0+ required for high refresh
- 3.Check GPU control panel for a 60Hz lock
- 4.Laptop power-saving mode forces 60Hz — plug in
Professional Refresh Rate Test
Live rAF sampling
Per-frame statistics via requestAnimationFrame + performance.now, reporting current/max/min/avg FPS every second.
Frame-time graph
Canvas bar chart of the last 120 frames; spikes over 20ms are highlighted red.
3-speed motion block
Constant-velocity blocks at 1x/2x/4x make smoothness differences visible.
What Is Refresh Rate?
Hz (refresh rate)
How many times per second the panel redraws. 60Hz = 60 redraws, limited by panel and cable bandwidth.
FPS (frame rate)
Frames produced by content per second. Above Hz the extra frames are dropped; below Hz stutter appears.
Frame time (ms)
Interval between frames: 1000/FPS. 16.7ms≈60Hz, 6.9ms≈144Hz. Less variance = smoother.
How to Use
Watch the dashboard
Sampling starts automatically; wait 2-3 seconds for the reading to stabilize.
Read the frame-time graph
Even green bars = stable output; red spikes = dropped frames or scheduling jitter.
Compare with rating
If the measured value is below spec, work through the troubleshooting checklist.
Common Refresh Tiers
60Hz Standard
Fine for office & media
- + Best compatibility
- + Power efficient
- − Visible drag when scrolling fast
120-144Hz
Sweet spot for gaming
- + Clearly smoother
- + Affordable
- − Needs DP/HDMI 2.0 cable
240Hz+ Esports
For competitive players
- + Extremely responsive
- + Lowest input lag
- − Diminishing returns
- − Higher power draw
VRR
FreeSync / G-Sync
- + No tearing
- + Smooth at low fps
- − Needs GPU + panel support
Optimization Tips
Windows: Settings → Display → Advanced, manually pick the highest refresh rate.
Use certified DP 1.2+ / HDMI 2.0+ cables; adapters may cap at 60Hz.
Plug in laptops and use the Best Performance power plan.
Browser tests follow the OS compositor; verify in-game with a frame counter.
